term limits

This has been an issue that has been brought up numerous times in the past by voters and elected officials.  There is no limit to the number of terms that a member of the House or the Senate can serve.  Despite many politicians running on term limits in the past, no serious effort has been made to enact these limits on themselves.  That is why one of the first things I will do is begin putting forward proposed constitutional amendments that if passed would do exactly that.  Below are the limits that I am currently considering pushing for.

House of Representatives: 6 terms (12 years)

Senate: 2 terms (12 years)

Any individual who has held the office of the President for two accumulated years shall not be eligible for any federal office, including but not limited to the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Supreme Court.

12 years is just an arbitrary number that is negotiable, though I do consider that to be a reasonable number of years for an individual to learn the roles and responsibilities of the office and to gain a greater amount of influence than the lobbyists and special interest groups that undoubtedly attempt to persuade every member of congress.

The third part of the proposed amendment would be to ensure that past partisan presidents cannot to given a position on the Supreme Court to wrongfully influence our nations court system towards one party or the other.  There may also need to be a maximum number of years that an individual can sit on the Supreme Court or a maximum age to sit on the Supreme Court, though I have not yet put very much consideration into that.
